Chapter XIII : One Shall Return...

Year Unknown, Outside Freedom Army Headquarters

Vulcan: "There is some resemblance..."

Still assembled outside the entrance to Headquarters, the Freedom Army, the Z senshi and the Androids were discussing Goku's Super Saiyajin 3 and 4 transformations.

A few minutes later, Goku, Raven, Gale, Vulcan, Gohan, Piccolo and Freezer stood in the briefing room. The others remained outside, listening in. Those inside were looking at the silver statue exposed there. The statue of a great warrior with long hair.

Raven: "Transform again so we c'n compare!"

Goku transformed to Super Saiyajin 3, careful not to damage the surroundings. There could be no mistake: both he and the statue were the same.

Gohan: "It's a statue of my father!"

Piccolo: "Of course."

Freezer: "Puzzling...Where did you find this statue and how?"

Vulcan: "Star found it a few months ago. She brought it back, and as soon as they saw it, Raven and Gale claimed it was a statue of their God. I cannot understand how or why such a statue would be here."

Freezer: "Son Goku..."

Goku: "Hm?"

Freezer: "...Touch the statue..."

Goku: "Touch it?"

Freezer: "Yes."

Goku: "How? Like this?" He placed his palm on the lifesize statue's shoulder.

Freezer: "..."

Goku: "Why?"

Freezer: "Do not bother me with such useless questions."

Goku: "Oh. Anyway, it's kind of strange to find two statues like that in this time."

Freezer: "Two? There is another?"

Goku: "Yes, a statue of Oob. It looked pretty much like this one too."

Freezer: "Where is this statue?"

Goku: "We found it near the Main Board's base."

Freezer: "You, Son Goku, shall come with me and show me this statue."

Freezer teleported himself and Goku to the entrance to the Main Board's Headquarters.

Freezer: "..." He teleported Goku, Oob's statue and himself back to the briefing room.

Freezer: "Where is this "Oob"? Bring him here!" The young fellow timidly entered the room and joined the others near the two statues.

Oob: "Goku-san! There is a statue of you, too?"

Freezer: "You two shall now do as I say. Touch your respective statues simultaneously."

Goku: "But why?"

Freezer: "Now."

Goku and Oob shrugged and then touched their statues as told. An intense flash of light illuminated the room, blinding all but Freezer. When the light diminished, the two statues had gone, and Goku and Oob looked at each other, suddenly understanding.

Goku: "I...see...I am...one of the Legendary Super Saiyajin..." Goku and Oob both remembered their arrival in the other dimension when Broli was about to destroy their friends. Goku had been able to defeat him and he and Oob had brought everyone back in time to where they wished to go. This would have stripped them of their powers, but now the two had somehow regained them.

Freezer: "There."

Goku: "You knew it all along?"

Freezer: "Not at all. I cannot sense what is related to the other Apprentices. It is so. All of their present, past and future, all which is somehow linked to them is unknown to me."

Goku: "I now remember everything...The spiritual mode, Super Saiyajin 4, Perfect Saiyajin..."

Freezer: "Good. Only one is left."

Goku: "But...you are not a Saiyajin...How can we have the same powers?"

Freezer: "I was given those powers by the Sage who lives in the Land of the Dead. From there, he gave the powers to a total of four people which he named his "Apprentices". The First Apprentice was the one who was summoned inside Cell's body. You, Son Goku, must be the Second or Third Apprentice, I, being the Fourth."

Goku: "But I obtained these powers to confront Broli eternally. How could this Sage have given them to me? He and I have not even met!"

Freezer: "The Sage first saught one powerful being to act as his aide. He gave the powers to this being, which he named his Apprentice. After some time, the Apprentice renounced his master and left, taking control of the world of the living."

Freezer: "Seing this, the Sage found two dead warriors' spirits and gave his powers to them as well, turning them into his Second and Third Apprentices. The First Apprentice did not accept to have his plans foiled by his former master, and so he used a powerful spell which erased the Second and Third Apprentices' memories and imprinted them with new ones, the memories of the Legendary Super Saiyajin, it seems. This stratagem delayed the two new Apprentices."

Freezer: "It took much time for the Sage to discover what had happened to his warriors, and so he searched for a new warrior, one who would reunite his Apprentices and bring the First Apprentice's revolt to its end. And so, the Sage found me and gave me the same powers, but I had an advantage: I had not been influenced by the First Apprentice's spell. All that was left for me to do was to find the Second and Third Apprentices before confronting the First."

Everyone had assembled in the warehouse, where all was explained to them.

With a movement of his arm, both Trunks fused together into one warrior.

Irony (whispering to Argentine): "Wow! How did he do that!?"

Argentine: "He's got special powers, Irony, haven't you been following like everybody else?"

Irony (^^"): "Oh yeah, right!"

Irony: "I wonder if..." She suddenly made her way to the front of the crowd, to where Goku was standing, Argentine hot on her tail.

Argentine: "Irony! What the hell are you doing!?"

Irony, having finally reached Goku, asked her question.

Wolfsbane: "A favor? To Android scum like you?" Irony did not seem to hear her.

Goku: "A favor? What kind of favor?" Argentine decided to cut in.

Argentine (^^"): "Please, don't mind her, she's just delusional. Now now, Irony, you don't want to bother anyone, now come along?" She tried dragging her away, but Irony would not listen.

Irony: "Could you please make Pioneer functional again? Please?"

She was begging him with the wide eyes of a child. Even though she was an Android, a part of the Android Nation that he had fought...She did not look like the others, who had been bent on world domination. She just acted like a child...an innocent child...Goku found he could not refuse such a demand.

With a movement of his arm, the Android Pioneer appeared besides Irony, repaired and functional.

Pioneer: "Ready to serve, sir."

Clockwork (to Goku): "Why did you bring him back? He had been eliminated. Nature's selection had been done."

Goku: "I could not refuse someone who is pure of heart...even if she has none."

Clockwork: "But we are enemies."

Goku: "As you can see, she does not think so." Clockwork turned to her in Pioneer's arms.

Clockwork: "..."

Clockwork: "We thank you for this gift. If you will now excuse us, we have things to discuss with Pioneer."

Goku: "I shall keep an eye on you...Clockwork..."

Clockwork: "...I...see..." He left, followed by his Android "relatives".

Freezer: "Do not waste time with such little concerns. History is being destroyed as we speak. We must act quickly to prevent further destruction."

Goku: "Perhaps...but what must we do?" Zarbon and Dodoria emerged from the crowd and joined their leader.

Dodoria: "Sama! We will accompany you!"

Zarbon: "We are your loyal servants."

Freezer: "Zarbon-san. Dodoria-san. I understand your will to follow me, but you shall be of no use to me until the First Apprentice is eliminated. You shall have to remain here until further notice."

Zarbon: "...As you wish, Freezer-sama."

Dodoria: "Hai, Freezer-sama!"

Freezer(to Goku): "The next step in our quest is to discover the other Apprentice. If you are to be called the Second, then we will need to find the Third."

Goku: "You do not know who it is."

Freezer: "No."

Goku: "But it must be Broli."

Freezer: "Broli? Who might he be?"

Goku: "He was the only "Legendary Super Saiyajin" in another dimension, a dimension where I had not regained my powers. He would have been the one you would have feared the most had I not been there to defeat you on Freezer 79."

Freezer: "And where can we find this "Broli" ?"

Goku: "He is not here. It is unfortunate that I have defeated him in my perfect form in the "alternate" dimension, as we call it. He has been destroyed and shall not return until a thousand years from now."

Freezer: "It is...most unfortunate, but it is imperative that we find him. Would it be possible to go back to your last battle with him and to convince him to join our forces?"

Goku: "He was...chaotic, at that time. He had no control and had only achieved Super Saiyajin Level 4. The Spiritual mode was unknown to him."

Freezer: "We shall have to find him and teach him...teach him the way of the Millenial Warriors."

Goku: "It will be...difficult, but we can try. Oob, you will remain here and try to hold the fabric of time together. Stabilize it if necessary."

Oob: "Oi!"

Freezer: "He knows...?"

Goku: "He is my...student."

Freezer: "Fine."

Freezer: "Oob, this dimension is the heart of all this, it is the center of this cataclysm affecting all of space and time. If anything should happen to it, we could all be destroyed instantly. You must be vigilant."

Oob: "Oi!"

Freezer: "Lead the way, Son Goku. Take us to your last battle with... Broli..."

Goku concentrated for a moment and with a movement of his arm, a blue vortex materialized in front of them both. In turn, they crossed this inter-dimensional bridge.

Piccolo: "This is...astounding."

Vulcan: "The situation seems to be beyond all of us."

Oob: "Not for me, but it would be difficult to explain."

Vulcan: "We seem to have time. I will listen to your explanations."

Oob: "Alright, then."

As some left the group to attend chores, take some rest or just discuss the situation, the remaining people went with Oob to the Tavern to try to learn more about the foundings of the Universe.

Alone in an unoccupied room of the Army's complex, the Androids were once again discussing strategy.

Titania: "We had been discussing about what we should do now. The Main Board has been deactivated and the First Apprentice has taken Cell's body. I suggested we try to take over this world, but the rest of the group objected. What is your recommendation?" Irony was resting her head on Pioneer's shoulder, encircling his arm with her own.

Pioneer: "Well, we are now faced with powerful enemies. We are very few. I suggest we wait until this crisis situation is resolved before acting. Our "enemies" are in a state of alertness, which makes them more prone to over-reacting thus increasing their aggressiveness and therefore their power."

Viking: "A valid argument, brother."

Titania: "Clockwork?"

Clockwork: "A wise and thorough analysis. I agree with you, as this was also the same conclusion I had reached."

Titania: "Fine...again. Let's wait and hope we're not missing our best chance."

Lilac and Star were returning from their search around the world. Along with them were Snapdragon, Dandelion, Future Trunks, Neo18 and Neo17. Flying at high speed they were heading back to Headquarters.

Star: "I'm positive. Vulcan won't do much on his own. He is more concerned by his work than...love."

Lilac: "But if this is so, I don't want to be, you know, the "second" best thing in his life..."

Star: "I think I didn't say this right. He is far too shy to tell you. That's what I think, and he "hides" behind his work so that his shame isn't such a heavy burden to bear."

Lilac: "You seem to know a lot about men..."

Star: "I try to...guess..."

Star: "Men are...difficult to understand..."

Lilac: "..."

Star: "I don't know if they're really worth it..."

Behind, Trunks and Neo17 were accidentally overhearing.

Neo18 joined the two ladies in front.

Star: "I don't know if I should wait for "the right one" or if I should go with anyone I find. The "right one" doesn't seem to exist for me."

Neo18: "Maybe we can help you with that...We'll just have to "teach" you."

Star: "..." She felt very embarrassed and blasted forward at a greater speed.

Star: "Let's go back."

Year 787

The skies darkened as a cold wind blew over the mountains. A storm was on the way...The other Z senshi were watching helplessly, as their powers were too weak to help Gohan and Vegita, the Saiyajin Prince. Any who would try to escape would be killed by the Legendary tyrant Broli, as his powers were now infinitely greater than any warrior�s alone...

"This is it", Vegita thought, "this is the end. Vegitan failed, Gohan and I are almost dead and I have only one Senzu left...Hey! Wait a minute! If I..."

Immediately, Vegita swallowed the seed and instantly felt his strength coming back to him...and more...

He got up, turned around, and faced Broli with his usual menacing look as the sky flashed with a lightning bolt and thunder rolled through the sound of the wind.

Broli: "Pathetic! Even at Level 3, there is nothing you can do, Vegita!"

Vegita: "We�ll see about that! YAAH!"

Vegita started his attack with a dashing punch, which Broli dodged. He followed with a spin kick, knocking Broli down, and he ended with a powerful knee drop in Broli�s back. Vegita jumped back and readied another attack. Broli got back up as more lightning brightened the skies. Meanwhile, Piccolo went to the injured Gohan and carried him back to the other Z senshi. Vegita dashed at Broli once more and started spinning around him at blinding speed, landing dozens of punches.

But Broli was no fool. He raised an arm and grabbed Vegita by the throat at his first attempt.

Piccolo: "There�s no way Vegita can kill him."

Broli landed four slow yet powerful punches in Vegita�s face and blew him away with an energy ball.

Vegita (to himself): "Kuso! He�s good. He�s really good. But I�m stronger now. I�ll make it...Maybe I can lead him off..."

Vegita: "Hey! Wash-out! Can�t you do better?"

Broli: "What? You miserable twerp!" Broli dashed at Vegita an unleashed his "Machine Gun Shooter". Dozens of kicks connected with Vegita�s body as the poor Saiyajin Prince tried to defend himself. Ultimately, Broli threw a stronger kick which knocked Vegita down.

Vegita (getting up and smiling): "What was I saying! You did get weaker! Your kicks aren�t as strong as they used to be!"

Broli: "Why you...!" Broli kicked him up and smashed him back down with a piledriver.

Vegita (laughing, looking up): "Even your Hell�s Smash isn�t as powerful. What�s wrong with you?"

Broli: "Don�t try to bluff Vegita! I know you�re hurt, whether you agree or not. You cannot win."

Broli: "We are of the same blood, Vegita! Join me!"

Vegita: "Don�t push your luck. Even if you conquer the Universe, I�ll never serve anyone! I am the Prince of all Saiyajin!"

Broli: "Vegita! But you will die! It would be a tremendous loss to the Saiyajin race!"

Vegita: "Then...so be it." Thunder rumbled from the dark clouds.

Broli: "Then die, my Prince!" Broli threw a blazing punch down at him, but his fist only met dirt. Vegita stood a few feet away, his arms folded, laughing, his wicked smile up his face.

Vegita: "Hm hm hm...I told you you weren�t as strong, but I should�ve added that you weren�t as fast, either!"

Broli: "Bastard!" Broli attacked him with a dashing punch. Vegita dodged.

Vegita: "Ha ha ha! I�m one of your descendants, remember?"

Vegita (dodging): "You wouldn�t want to insult your whole family, would you?"

Broli (constantly attacking): "My family is a proud one! You are no longer part of it!"

Broli attacked faster and faster, and Vegita was having more and more trouble avoiding the hits.

Troubled by Broli�s words, Vegita was surprised by his next hit and was sent flying. Broli went to him and picked him up.

Broli: "Well...maybe not!" Broli held Vegita�s collar with his left hand and used his other hand to shoot a point-blank Renzouku Energy-dan at his opponent�s face. After the smoke cleared, the scorched Vegita fell to the ground, agonizing.

Broli (looking down at him): "You shouldn�t have tried to bluff, Vegita. You lost your last precious ounces of strength because of this. This is it. The finishing blow..." Broli raised his arm, preparing a powerful fireball, and as lightning lit up the sky again, Broli shot it down...

Broli (looking everywhere): "Where is he? My Energy-dan missed!"

Then he saw him. Vegita was a few meters away, still in great pain, but someone else was with him. That person had somehow saved the Saiyajin Prince just in time. It was a young man with dark skin and a black mohawk. He got up and faced Broli and, at this moment, Piccolo recognized who that was.

Oob (smiling): "Hi, everyone!"

Broli: "Yes, I know who you are. You are Oob, the reincarnation of Boo. How did you get to this timeline?"

Oob: "Through the portal." Saying this, he turned around and pointed to a bright, blue swirling disk 30 meters away over the Cell Game ring, which everyone had left since the beginning of the battle. At that moment, a shadowy figure appeared in the disk and slowly stepped out.

????: "Broli! You have created enough chaos already..."

Goten: "What!?"

Trunks: "He looks like..."

F.Trunks: "Who...?"

Gohan (weak): "Who...is it, Piccolo-san?"

Piccolo (unsure): "It�s..."

Piccolo: "Gohan! Look! It�s...Goku!"

Gohan painfully turned his head and tried to focus his vision on the man in front of the glowing portal. He was wearing an orange outfit, had long yellow hair and an unforgetable look of determination in his eyes...

...The greatest man to ever fight for right, peace and justice...

Broli: "Kakarotto."

Goku appeared in all of the magnificence of Super Saiyajin 3, wind blowing through his long hair, yet unable to disturb the peace and calm emanating from the mighty warrior...

Piccolo: "Goku! What�s going on? Can you explain?"

Without taking his eyes off Broli, Goku went toward his friends. When he finally reached Gohan, he placed his hand on his son�s head, healing him instantly.

Goku: "There is much to explain, Kamiccolo-sama, and I think it�s about time you all learn."

Goku: "The Saiyajin Legend...is far from what you know..."

Piccolo(-_-"): "Don't call me that..."

The storm seemed to calm down momentarily, but quickly picked up again, as though sensing this upcoming battle of epic proportions.

Goku: "The Saiyajin Legend, through time, has been altered, modified from it�s original source. Hear the true Legend..."

Goku: "2000 years ago, two very special beings were born on Vegitasei. The two beings had power. Great power, that the people of the planet had never seen before. Broli and I were these two people. Broli desired the planet. He wanted to become its leader and spread his tyranny throughout the Universe. He wanted to turn the peaceful inhabitants into barbarians. I discovered his intentions, but did not act immediately. Many brave ones tried to stop Broli from conquering the planet, but were unsuccessful, which is what led me to try to save the people myself. I met Broli and we fought for many days. After a very long and difficult battle, I won and killed him, thus saving the planet from Broli's evil. Peace returned to the planet and life went on in happiness and freedom... "

Broli: "You have an unusual way of saying things. Anyway, a thousand years later, I was reborn as well as my arch-enemy, Kakarotto. Once again, I tried to take over the planet, but this time, I was ready. I had discovered the secret of the fourth and ultimate level of power. Using my newlyfound strength, I faced the second Kakarotto and triumphed over him, killing him with this unstopable power I now had. The fourth level of power did something very strange to me. With it, I could remember what had happened in my past life a thousand years before. Since I had discovered the secret to this level I did not fear my next life, the one I would have a thousand years later, since I could always go back to the fourth level and remember it. And so, with Kakarotto out of the way, I took over the planet. I renamed it Vegitasei, created the new Saiyajin Order and proclamed myself King Vegita, the first. The people of the planet had changed since the first time we fought. There had been two nations, the intelligent one and the barbaric one. At the time we fought, the barbaric one had triumphed in their war and their violent instincts made it quite easy for me to take control of them. They hailed me as their master, as their god, the legendary Super Saiyajin!"

Goku: "That is why I, the other Super Saiyajin, was never mentionned in the legend. The Saiyajin were driven by the will and wishes of one, so the other was forgotten as time passed..."

Broli: "And so, with the Saiyajin under my control, I soon had a son, which I named Vegita The Second to keep the bloodline alive. After 30 years of reign I went away, as I wanted to take a look at what the Saiyajin could accomplish without me, what destruction, what conquests they were able to make as a race: the Saiyajin race, my race. After 30 years, my grandson killed his father and took over the throne. It went on like this for 33 generations..."

Goku: "...until we were born once again. You now have the same goal you had a thousand years ago: conquest and destruction. I will not let you win this time, Broli!"

Broli: "You didn�t let me win last time! You were weaker! You were inferior! And I took advantage of that!"

Goku: "..."

Goku: "I know."

Broli: "Tell me, Kakarotto, when did you turn Super Saiyajin 4?"

Goku: "While training Oob, I have trained myself, in hopes of constantly improving and I did. I went to the next level and understood that only you and I were capable of such a transformation."

Vegita (healed by Oob): "Kakarotto! If he�s so intelligent, why did Broli act so dumb on Neo Vegitasei?"

Goku: "He WAS dumb. At that time, he did not remember his past lives..."

Goku: "This is our third meeting, Broli."

Broli: "We are destined to meet again and again...for eternity, Kakarotto. Nothing can prevent the cycle from going on..."

Goku: "Getting tired of it, Broli?"

Broli: "Not at all. Maybe you should retire, though."

Goku: "This is my purpose in life and death, Broli. I live only to that end, so it stimulates me to keep coming stronger and stronger."

Broli: "I improved as well. You lost last time and you�re going to lose again and again...for eternity..."

Goku: "I�ll let our fight be the judge of that."

Broli: "Transform now, or you�ll regret it!"

Goku charged up. His hair grew shorter, back to SSJ 1 state, but changed to a bright red. His body grew a bit larger and a skin tight red aura surrounded him as his usual yellow aura blazed with even more intensity. Goku yelled out and a gigantic red wave of energy spread outwards from him. Broli blocked it while Oob created a bubble of protective energy around the Z senshi. Goku had spoken the truth: he was a Super Saiyajin 4...

Broli (wickedly smiling): "Gladly!"

But at this moment a familiar voice was heard...a voice they never expected to hear ever again...

Goku(to Broli): "Broli."

Broli: "Kakarotto. You feel it too..."

Goku: "It sounds like Freezer...but his strength is..."

Broli: "...like ours?" They both turned their heads at the same time, turning to see if the one they had sensed truly was the same man.

And they were right.

Hovering 30 feet above the ground, Freezer stood, his arms crossed, a smile up his face. Besides him, was another man they both knew: he was Son Goku.

Goku: "What is going on...?"

Freezer: "Ho ho ho..."

(New)Goku: "Broli."

Freezer(landing softly): "Konnichi-wa, everyone."

Piccolo: "Two Gokus?"

Gohan: "What is this?"

Goku(to N.Goku): "You...you feel...just like...ME!"

N.Goku: "Yes, Son Goku. I AM you."

N.Goku: "We come from another dimension..."

Broli: "This cannot be! There can only be one Kakarotto throughout all dimensions!"

Freezer: "True...but the fabric of time and space is being destroyed...Chaos is taking over the Universe."

Broli: "What...Who are you?"

N.Goku: "We both are Millenial Warriors, like you. We have come to seek your help."

Broli: "My help?"

Freezer: "Yes...We need the three remaining Millenial Warriors to confront a terrible adversary, the First Apprentice."

N.Goku: "You must join us if we are to defeat the First Apprentice."

Goku: "Who is this First Apprentice?"

N.Goku: "He is a Millenial Warrior like us and he is causing heavy distorsions in the Universe. The Universe will lose its integrity if we do not act quickly."

Goku: "I can join you."

N.Goku: "No. You must remain here and fix this dimension's paradox. Broli is the one we require."

Broli: "You seek my help? ARE YOU INSANE? Do you really think I'll accept to help my arch-enemy? You must be out of your minds!"

Freezer: "Broli. What is your goal?"

Broli: "My goal is to dominate the Universe and to bring the Saiyajin race, my race, in control of it." Those words sent shivers up Freezer's spine.

Freezer: "Well then, Broli, I have to admit that I have the same goal."

Broli: "What?"

Freezer: "I was once the ruler of the galaxy...but I was defeated by Son Goku. I was later revived as a Millenial Warrior, thus giving me a second chance, a chance I shall take."

Freezer: "But the fact is, the whole Universe shall be destroyed if we do not act now, and if it is destroyed, ours dreams shall be put to an abrupt end. We, as conquerors, cannot allow anyone to interfere with our plans."

Broli: "True...but if I help you, and your goal is the same as mine, then you'll try to kill me as soon as this "First Apprentice" of yours is killed."

Freezer: "Of course...but so shall it be your goal to kill...me."

Broli: "..."

Broli: "...Then I'll join you."

N.Goku: "Splendid!"

Freezer: "First, you will need to train to reach the Perfect Saiyajin level, as Son Goku has already done."

Goku: "You know of it."

N.Goku: "Remember, Son Goku, I am you."

Freezer: "The Perfect level is continuous in me. The curse of the Saiyajin Legend has not affected me. Always remember that the Super Saiyajin Legend was a trick by the First Apprentice to get you both off his back. This curse made you lose the knowledge of your powers. Son Goku and I shall make you remember the true level of your powers, Broli, the powers you have forgotten."

Broli: "Are you saying that Super Saiyajin 4 is not the last level?"

N.Goku: "There are many more...up to Perfect Saiyajin..."

Broli: "...Then teach me."

Freezer: "It shall be done. Let us go back, then, to the other dimension, and make you remember, Broli. We must hurry, as we have little time left."

N.Goku: "Let's go." The new Goku created a vortex and then turned to Goku.

N.Goku: "Goku! Repair this dimension's wrongs...but be generous... even if it means losing your powers...you will regain them in the future...as I did."

Goku: "Good luck...It seems, judging by the little I have heard, that the fate of all living beings is in your hands...and thus, in mine as well."

N.Goku: "You have...understood." The new Goku turned back toward the vortex and went inside, followed in turn by Broli and Freezer. Then, the vortex disappeared, and the sky cleaned itself of its dark clouds, bringing a beautiful shining sun to brighten the land.
