Chapter II: Hawk Wind

Year 787

Seeing a moment of hesitation between the two factions, Trunks launched his attack, turning to Super Saiyajin.

Tigirl: "Wha---?" She and her companion instantly dodged Trunks by reaching the skies once more.

Tigirl: "Raven! Use y'r Scouter! What's his potential?"

Hawkman (disbelieving): "Si...six hundred ten! Maximum:...a thousand n' twenty..." He slowly turned toward the Tigirl.

Tigirl: "The others...?"

Hawkman (looking at Gohan): "Potential: 870. Maximum: 1270."

Hawkman (looking at Oob): "Potential: 898. Maximum: 1550."

Hawkman (looking at Goten): "Potential: 592. Maximum: 1112."

Hawkman (looking at Goku): "Wha---?" His Scouter suddenly exploded.

Hawkman (turning to the Tigirl, terrified): "That spike head...Potential: 920...Maximum:...Infinite..." The Tigirl widened her eyes in amazement...and terror.

Tigirl: "I...i...infinite? Uh...Raven...let's go..."

Hawkman: "I'll never back down from a fight!!!"

Tigirl: "...I know, m'love..."

Hawkman: "For Freedom, then! Let's take 'em down!" He charged a powerful ball of energy and unleashed it among his enemies, who all dodged in different directions, Goku and Goten turning to Super Saiyajin.

The Tigirl then flew down toward Goten, connecting with several powerful blows sending Goten flying. Gohan came to his rescue, placing a kick in the Tigirl's stomach. Unaffected, she rose her hand in front of Gohan's face and blasted him away. She then flew toward him.

Trunks took on the Hawkman. Each blocked the other's shots and blows as they seemed to be evenly matched. But Goku joined in, forcing the Hawkman to fall back.

The double blast flew directly toward the Hawkman, but he easily batted it away with one of his wings. Trunks looked at Goku in amazement as Goku looked back at him and shrugged. Oob joined the fight, hiting the Hawkman twice in the stomach and following with a blazing uppercut which sent the winged one upwards, followed with a plumetting descent toward the ground.

Hawkman: "Lucky."

Tigirl (to herself): "Damn. Thought he was..."

Taking advantage of her distraction, Goten attacked the Tigirl.

Tigirl: "Wha---?" As she turned around, she saw the blast hurtling toward her face. She instinctively rose her arms to protect herself as the blast connected...and vanished...

Goten: "Nani?" Gohan looked at him in the same puzzled way. The Tigirl let down her guard to show a large grin on her face.

Tigirl: "Fu fu fu..."

Goten: "Who are you?"

Tigirl: "Ha ha ha...If ya really wanna know, ya'll have ta name y'rself first, chump!"

Goten: "I'm Son Goten. Now who are you?"

Tigirl: "Hmmm...Never heard o' ya! I'm Gale, Commander o' Freedom Army and servin' under General Vulcan. Havin' no rank, ya should go back home instead o' comin' here ta die! Ya don't have a chance against a high-rankin' officer like me!"

Gohan: "You're going to have to get by all of us to do what you want around here!"

Gale: "And who might ya be, washout?"

Gohan: "I am Son Gohan, and Goten is my brother!"

Tigirl: "Bein' at it, might as well intraduce my partner in life, Raven, also Commander o' Freedom Army."

Gale: "Ha ha ha ..."

Recovering quickly, Gohan flew at her and punched her right in the face, following with a knee in the back and a powerful hammer punch that sent her to the ground. When the dust cleared, she got up, slowly.

Gale: "Nani?" Another blast, one from Gohan this time, came straight at her as she looked up at her opponents, but again, the blast mysteriously vanished upon touching her.

Gohan: "How does she...?" Gale got up, stretching a little and smiling.

Meanwhile, Raven was battling the other three Z-senshi, Goku, Trunks and Oob. Although he was fighting against all odds, he seemed to still be healthy, getting back up after each hit. Still, Goku noticed the strange look Raven gave him. At one point, Raven blew away Oob and Trunks, looked at Goku and stopped.

Raven: "Anyway, y're my enemy taday so I'm gonna trash ya!"

Raven dashed at Goku and a fist fight started, each antagonist dodging or blocking the other's hits and countering as best they could. Instantly, Raven jumped over Goku, therefore dodging the charging Oob who then collided with Goku. Seeing that two of his foes had momentarily fallen, Raven searched for his third enemy, the one who had attacked them first, but did not find him.

Raven (to Goku and Oob): "Hey! Where's y'r other buddy? Did he run away? Wasn't HE the one who said I was a coward?"

Puzzled, Goku tried to pick up Trunks' Ki...and failed. Seeing that Raven did not seem ready to attack and truly meant his question, Goku turned to Oob who shrugged as well. Trunks seemed to have completely disappeared...

Gohan felt a sudden shiver through his body...as if something strange was going to happen. He saw Goten, from afar, trying another Kamehameha at Gale...which had no effect. She was strange...there was an aura of disrespect and selfishness around her, yet she did not fight with cruelty or dishonor. Who was she? Where did she come from? Why wasn't she fighting at full power...? That constant, devious smile up her face was troubling or misleading him...

She dashed at him, unleashing a flurry of punches that ultimately dizzied the poor Goten who fell to the ground. She then rose to the sky.

Gale: "CHANNELING RETALIATION!!!"

Her body glew, rapidly changing colors and suddenly the entire shape of her body emited an immense rainbow beam of energy, shot directly at Goten who was just recovering from her previous attack. The beam hit him...

A giant crater was formed where Goten once stood, yet now Goten was all curled up in the center of it, unconscious.

Gale: "Next!"

Gohan rushed toward his brother, kneeling down to see if he was still alive.

Gale (crossing her arms): "Ain't that what fightin's all about, sweetie?"

He rushed at her, attacking at full power. He tried his best, but was never able to connect with an effective hit. The tide turned when Gale decided she would attack. She connected with four punches in his stomach, one to the jaw, one to the right leg, three more to the stomach, four more to the jaw...after which Gohan lost count in his dizziness...He then vaguely heard Gale...

Gohan then felt something grazing his right side. He could now open his eyes and saw two familiar faces which finally blended into one.

Gohan: "Piccolo-san..."

Gohan (recovering): "Where is she?"

??????: "She's right here..."

At this moment everyone stopped and turned toward the newcomers.

One was a woman, about 18 years old with long blond hair tied in a pony tail. She wore baggy pants and a short sleeveless jacket, both made in an arabian style. A blue Scouter hid her left ear. The other was a man. He had red hair thrust upwards, looking like a blazing fire. He too wore the same arabian-like outfit, yet adding golden bracelets to his arms, and a red Scouter covered his left eye. In his arms was Gale. He calmly set her down as Raven came to her.

Gale: "Sure! What ya doin' here, Vulcan?"

Goku: "Who are you?"

??????: "I am the Founder of Freedom Army, General Vulcan. This is my sister, Executive Officer Star."

Vulcan (angry): "You, Raven! You came back to tell us Gale was dead! Star and I came here to save her before it was too late!"

Raven: "But she ain't dead!?!!?"

Vulcan: "She would've been had we not interfered."

Gale: "I...I thought...maybe..."

Vulcan (still angry): "You thought wrong...Gale!"

Gale: "..."

Vulcan: "You, Raven, told us about these men you were fighting. One has "infinite" potential?"

Raven: "Y...yeah! The spike head on the right." Vulcan turned toward Goku.

Vulcan: "I see."

Vulcan: "You go back to the ship, Raven, Gale. Star and I will handle them."

Raven: "As ya command, Gen'ral."

Gale: "Er...okay..." Raven and Gale started to leave, but Piccolo stood in their way.

Piccolo: "You won't leave that easily." In a flash, Vulcan appeared in front of Piccolo and connected with so many hits the Nameckjin was unable to count them as he was sent flying and hit the ground roughly.

Vulcan: "Do you not know the meaning of honor, green man?"

Vulcan (turning to Raven and Gale): "Now GO!"

Raven: "Yeah!" The two went away, lifting off the ground.

Goku: "Why did you come here?"

Vulcan: "We are from the future. We came to prevent our friends from toying with time. We believe we have no right to be the judges of the past. We can only judge the present." Meanwhile, Piccolo had recovered and went to see if Gohan was okay.

Goku: "Are you the ones who took Trunks?" Vulcan turned to Star. She shrugged.

Vulcan: "Something happened to one of yours?"

Goku: "...yes." Gohan then got up, shaken but okay.

Vulcan: "I don't know what you're talking about. I also have other matters to attend to, but first I would like to test you...especially you, the one with "infinite" potential."

Goku: "Er...excuse me but...er...what does "potential" mean?" Piccolo did not believe his ears.

Vulcan: "Potential power is the physical limit someone can ever hope to reach."

Vulcan: "Nonetheless, I must test you, "infinite one". I challenge you to a duel!"

Goku turned to his friends, hoping for some advice. Vulcan and Star did not hid their power either, and Vulcan was strong...far stronger than Goku...Seeing their hesitation, Vulcan cut in.

Star: "You can trust my brother. He is a man of his word."

Goku turned back toward Vulcan.

Vulcan: "I give you the chance of attacking first."

Goku: "...Iie. You go first."

Vulcan nodded and powered up. His battle aura was astonishing. As it grew in size, Vulcan's hair started to wave with the flow of energy around him. It grew a little longer, some pointing straighter toward the sky, some more dropping on his shoulders as they gradually changed color...changed to bright yellow...Vulcan then stood proudly...as he too...was a Super Saiyajin...

Piccolo: "Another?"

Gohan: "How...?"

Vulcan: "Now...Son Goku...as I believe it is your name...GET READY!!!"

Vulcan dashed at Goku with tremendous speed. He punched him in the stomach with a flaming fist that blew Goku away several hundred feet. Goku got up, though, still under the shock of discovering another Super Saiyajin. Although he would've preferred to stay concentrated on the match, the thought crossed his mind that Vulcan's sister, Star, would be one as well...

Vulcan continued his charge, running at Goku and bashing him with three devastating punches to the jaw and ending with a deadly dropping hammer punch. Goku got up slowly.

Goku (catching his breath): "You're right...You...fight well..."

Vulcan: "It is all I have ever done in my life."

Goku: "...Me too..."

Vulcan: "Have you recovered yet?"

Goku: "I'll...be fine. You want me to attack...I'll attack!!!" Saying so he turned to Super Saiyajin 3. He charged up power in his fist...and unleashed the blazing Dragon Fist!

Goku: "RYUKEN!!!"

The punch connected admirably, Vulcan having done nothing to block or dodge it. The one from the future was blown away by the mightiness of Goku's fist. He fell roughly back to the ground and did not move immediately. After three seconds he got up and spat down blood in front of him. He wiped his mouth and smiled.

Goku admired this warrior. Except for Oob, there had been little competition for Goku since thirteen years ago. This guy...a Super Saiyajin...a man from the future, he said...a mysterious man...HE was good...

The Dragon Fist...it would have killed any warrior on this earth...except perhaps Oob and Goku himself...but any of the previous two would have barely survived...Vulcan was standing proudly...

Vulcan: "There is always better than oneself, Son Goku..."

Vulcan: "This was good. Very good. But is it the extent of your abilities?"

Goku: "Of course not!"

Vulcan: "Then I am ready."

Goku: "Alright! This is the strongest I can do without any danger to the planet!" Goku charged up a Kamehameha. The ball of energy grew around his fingers, getting bigger and bigger up until Goku finally unleashed it.

Goku: "KAMEHAMEHA!!!!"

Vulcan stood still, smiling, as the light engulphed him. Quickly, it surrounded him completely...and suddenly exploded! A huge cloud of smoke covered the entire area, and slowly dissipated away...to reveal Vulcan, hands forward, blocking the blast. The keen eye would have seen a drop of sweat running down his right temple...

Vulcan: "I have nothing more to say, Son Goku. Listen to and consider the words of my sister Star. She will remain here for a full day while Raven, Gale and I return to our time. Know that she is perfectly able to defend herself. We will return in one day to take her back and if something has happened to her..." Vulcan started trembling from rage.

Vulcan: "...you shall know the extent of MY power..."

Vulcan: "Star!" She flew back to him from her standing post.

Star: "Yes, brother?"

Vulcan: "You know what you have to do. We will return in 24 hours."

Star: "Understood."

Vulcan: "Farewell then...and be careful, sister."

Star (smiling): "As always."

Vulcan turned away and went in the same direction that Raven and Gale had gone. When he disappeared in the distance, Star turned back toward Goku.
